Exercise 1.5 (p 45-49)
In class, we have been talking about different topics and expanding different categories. Also, writing different questions that relate to the topic. We are at the point in class where we can select a certain topic and complete a research plan. In the book The Curious Researcher exercise 1.5 asks us to write down a brief proposal that outlines our research plan. The proposal consists of the following:
Child abuse
1. What are the affects of child abuse?
2. My primary purpose for researching this topic is because child abuse is prominent in the world today. Also, many people are affected by this tragedy.
*Explore: How can child abuse affect a person?
*Argue: What is considered child abuse? My main claim and thesis is that some people discipline their kids to teach them a lesson, but some people go to far.
3. While doing this project, beliefs, assumptions, preconceptions, ideas, or prejudices thoughts that I want bring to this project is that child abuse can effect a child. Also, many people put their hands on kids to discipline them, but when is disciplining your child going too far? Some people consider spanking a form of abuse, but then there are those who do not. Over the years I have gained a huge understanding of child abuse and it is something that really upsets me. When I first thought of this topic, my main focus was to talk about the effects of abuse. Now, I want to focus on what is considered abuse.
