Blog 4

Exercise 2.2 (p. 84), step 1, 2, or 3

Step 1

In class, we have each picked a topic we want to expand upon or feel strongly about. We have picked this topic to obtain more research and learn more about it. Today we found out new ways to search information that can be very helpful. In the book The Curious Researcher, it is asking us to do something similar.

In step 1 it asks you to find two more search engines that we have not used yet for our research topic. I have already used google so I will also use Ask.com (http://www.ask.com) and Yahoo! Search (http://search.yahoo.com).

My research topic or this essay is going to be child abuse or abuse in general and reasons why it may be increasing. I picked two key words in the question "Why is there an increase in abuse?" and they were increase and abuse. I typed these words into the search engines of the prior search engines and got many results that were useful for my next essay.

Sources found:
Ask:

http://www.helpguide.org/mental/child_abuse_physical_emotional_sexual_neglect.htm
*This website was helpful and talked about different aspects of abuse. I can use a lot of this information in my next essay and it will allow me to explain my topic more. This article also offers myths about child abuse.

search.yahoo:
http://www.onhealth.com/child_abuse/article.htm
*This article was helpful and allowed me to gain more information on the topic of child abuse. There was also a list of questions you could chose from that answered them well. Also, this article is helpful because it goes in depth with the issue.

This assignment was helpful because I had the chance to collect information I could use in my next essay. Also, it showed me another way to research and collect information. This was very useful because there is a lot of information on child abuse and this research process allows me to gain a better understanding of abuse.
